Surfing On The Go Slowly Gaining Popularity

In a current study of TNS Emnid ordered by the German mobile phone provider E-Plus, the mobile usage in January 2008 was compared to that in January 2007. 1.052 mobile phone users in all were interviewed.

Percentage of the mobile users who use their mobile phone to…

… surf: 13.7% (previous year: 4.0%)
… download music: 15.2% (
previous year: 4.3%)
… navigate, watch TV, download videos: 2.3% (previous year: 0.8%)
… send SMS: 84.1% (previous year: 81.4%)
… send MMS: 34.1% (previous year: 27.8%)

Only e-mail transmission decreased to 5.6% (previous year: 6.4%).

Hence, „increasing slowly, but surely“ is the conclusion for the development of mobile internet usage within the last year. SMS continues to remain the most popular function besides telephony, whereby the transmission of MMS also has stepped up.
